This is who you are by Solar Fake

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

When one of my all-time favourite artists releases a new song i always go through a mixture of excitement and anxiousness. What if I don't like it? What if it leaves me disappointed? After all it has happened to me quite a few times with bands and musicians where i never would have expected it.

I have been following Sven Friedrich's projects for pretty much all of my life. I saw his old band Zeraphine as a support act of HIM back in 2004 and fell in love with them immediately. I then went down the rabbit hole to not only binge listen to all Zeraphine albums but also discover his very first band Dreadful Shadows and do the same with their music. It was love at first sight (or first listen) and I have to thank Sven and those bands for some of the best memories of my youth. Lots of trips to gigs and festivals, many friends I made and the music helping me through many difficult times in my life. When Solar Fake was born in 2008 I went to one the very first first gigs and have followed the project ever since. I liked it from the very beginning and kept growing on me. I feel like they have made a huge progress musically and it always puts a smile on my face to witness their growing success.

The year 2020 did definitely change to music industry a lot and I feel like the effects will become even more obvious in the future. It pains me to see musicians struggling and I hate not being able to go to concerts. So every time a new song or album comes out I cherish it even more. Solar Fake's 6th studio album will be released on February 12 and It's who you are is the 2nd single to be released. It is a very catchy song with the kind of dark lyrics that are typical for Sven Friedrich. After listening to it for the first time I couldn't get it out of my head for a few days. And it definitely stuck with me enough to keep listening to it again and again. I would probably say that I prefer the first single This Pretty Life a bit over this one but the two songs definitely give a promising taste of the upcoming album already. It is obvious that the band keeps evolving and reinventing themselves which is something i always approve of. The song makes me want to go out to festivals and dance and party like we used to do before the pandemic. I am very much intrigued and can't wait for the album to release. So far Solar Fake have never disappointed me and it doesn't feel like they will with this one.

Check out the full song and video and if you want please let me know what you think of it:

The guys of Solar Fake used the past months to establish a podcast which is not only interesting but definitely entertaining too. If you're interested and do understand some German I highly recommend you to check it out here.
